FIRST LIST REVEALED of speakers for the next edition of PALM Soundscape in Mumbai between May 26-28 2016 at the PALM Expo, Asia’s largest exhibition for pro-audio, sound and light technology and AV install.

Curated by UnMute, over 3 days, the topics discussed will vary from Live event production themed Sound and Lighting Technology and the future plus thought leaders from EEMA will come together and envision a music festival in 2026 along with musician centric themed discussions where leading record label and streaming companies will get together in ‘Record labels 101’, Gaming industry folk assemble to discuss the opportunities for music in gaming opening up newer avenues for the Indian producer. Demo workshops see Nucleya deconstructing one of his most iconic tracks and Arjun Vagale, Vinayak^a and Aqua Dominatrix get together for a SynthFest JAM. In a country with music tastes as varied as its culture, electronic music is finding its feet thanks to dedicated DJ’s and producers who bring international standards home. One of the pioneers of this movement is DJ/Producer Arjun Vagale, who has been constantly championing the country’s wealth of talent and leading the way with his work. Today, he adds another rung on the ladder up with his debut on the globally renowned dance music label, SCI+TEC, and joins forces with one of Spain’s hottest young artists Ramiro Lopez on their EP ‘One Shot’.

SCI+TEC is a premier techno label founded by legendary Grammy winning DJ and Producer, DUBFIRE. The label has previously released music from global dance music legends like Paul Ritch, David Squillace, Steve Lawler, Booka Shade, D’Julz and Dubfire himself among others.

 

Voted India’s No.1 DJ by DJ Mag India and India’s best Techno DJ and Producer by MyFav awards, Arjun Vagale has been consistently hitting the Beatport worldwide charts with each of his releases in 2014 and has been supported by some of the biggest names in dance music including John Digweed, Richie Hawtin, Dubfire, Loco Dice, Christian Smith, Victor Calderone and many more.

Showing appreciation for the EP, Secret Cinema said about the release, “French vocals always work for me and Je Na Sais Quoi uses them well!” Kaiserdisco added, “This is a great EP from Arjun and Ramiro – it will be getting the full Kaiser and disco support. Instrumental in bringing globally acclaimed artists to our shores as well as representing the Indian techno scene through a series of gigs abroad, he has been setting the pace for others to follow. RESET Electronic Music Showcase Announced

It was a long time coming but it finally found its voice – a no-nonsense electronic dance music showcase of quality Indian talent. And it’s called RESET. A homebrewed celebration aimed to unleash the true might of good music, RESET will not only recalibrate perceptions but will also put the best indigenous DJ’s in the same room as upcoming local talent, thus becoming a collaborative journey.

Spread across various cities, each gathering will be unique in scope and international in vision. RESET hopes to pave the way for a more discerning way of experiencing left-field genres as well as intelligent dance music, enabling audiences to hear different sounds.

Be warned though that RESET is not a festival, it’s a celebration focussed on the artist and as such, is created from a more hands-on perspective that UnMute is known for. Bringing together top DJ’s from across India as well as finding young artists in each city that RESET goes to – we hope to spark off something big.

The first edition takes off in Hyderabad presented by Kingfisher Ultra Soulflyp in association with VH1 and Musifix on March 22, 2014 and will be followed soon by showcases in cities like Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Pune, Delhi and Goa to begin with. Held in partnership with Phoenix, a brand new events company, the launch event will be held at the main convention centre of the Leonia Holistic Destination, which also features a world class Funktion One sound system.

In another first, RESET will feature India’s hottest domestic electronic dance music talent playing b2b (back to back) sets. These sets will stem from previously successful as well as brand new collaborations, ensuring there’s something fresh for each edition by pitching similar thinking DJ’s together to create mad sounds.

The ‘b2b’ line-up for the first edition features the likes of Arjun Vagale v/s Adam, Anil Chawla v/s Kohra, Praveen Achary v/s Vipul, Murthovic v/s Audio Units and support from dynamic local Hyderabad talent handpicked from a DJ contest, Ankit Pandey, Huzefa, Midnight Traffic and DJ Nephra. Following a start early, end late philosophy – the event kicks off at 4pm and is on till the milkman comes calling.  Upcoming versions will continue to evolve with each city and include more varied genres and artists.

World renowned Techno powerhouse and Co-Founder of UnMute, Arjun Vagale adds, “I’m so glad that we are able to put together RESET, and build a showcase for Indian artists playing in their own backyard with international production standards. It’s truly been a team effort right from conceptualisation to artwork to line-up and we hope to build it stronger, and eventually add more home-grown talent to the various line-ups”.

[NEWS] BLOT! LIVE Score 1929 Classic

India’s leading audio visual collective, BLOT! will be live scoring the classic silent film “A Throw Of Dice,” with Lifafa by musically interpreting the film fusing elements of analogue & abstract sounds, lush soundscapes and some regular old fashioned resampling. All at once a film and a gig, the beautiful cinematography inherent to silent films of the 1920’s will be given voice (and or sound) and seen in a new light, with an all-new soundtrack.

BLOT! is India’s leading audio-video electronica act, a live performance project that is helmed by Gaurav Malaker and Avinash Kumar. For this evening, BLOT! and Lifafa will be live scoring the classic “A Throw Of Dice,” musically interpreting the silent film by fusing elements of analogue electronica, treated vocals and lush soundscapes and some regular old fashioned resampling. All at once a film and a gig, the beautiful cinematography inherent to silent films of the 1920’s will be given voice(and or sound) and seen in a new light, with an all-new and original soundtrack created especially for the occasion.

The above programmes are part of the Excellence on Tour organised by DWIH New Delhi Consortium.

[NEWS] Oozeundat release debut EP

India’s freshest underground dance music producers OOZEUNDAT release their debut EP on Global Indian DJ/Producer and UnMute founding partner, Arjun Vagale’s MakTub Music.

Oozeundat are Pune’s Roan Sable and Sidhant Naren. Their passion for listening to underground dance music brought them together, eventually taking a step further and forming the collective.

We had a little chat with them about their release and more:

1. Congratulations on the release of your debut EP – “Bitch to Quit / Disjointed” . First off, tell us about the quirky title?

Thank you so much guys. We are stoked.

Bitch To Quit the title came from the vocal sample included in the track.

Its also a message we want to put out to the kids ‘stop doing drugs’ 😛

2. This is a question which will help many, how did you start on it and what was your inspiration?

The inspiration for both these tracks was simply the state of mind we were in at that point of time. We usually focus on the rhythm initially slowly creating grooves ending with a lot of effects and an apt arrangement. Through our sets and our productions, the aim is always to get people locked into a groove.

3. Whats your studio setup right now? Send in a pic?

The studio set up at the moment is quite simple.

We are running Logic and Ableton on our macbook Pro’s.

Running through a Digidesign Mbox/Focusrite Saffire Soundcard.

Yamaha HS80M Monitors and alternatively HS50M’s.

Lastly a Native Instruments Maschine.

4. What’s next from the Oozeundat stable ?

We are currently in the process of finishing our next EP.

Simultaneously working on a bunch of other tracks.

The goal this year is to put out as much quality music as possible.
